Jewelry To Wear This NYE (& Beyond)
New Year’s Eve: the one night of the year when less is not more. December 31st is about glitz, glam, and gold, and you can’t ring in the new year without accessories that rival the sparkle of the disco ball. But the problem with splurging on dazzling jewelry for NYE is that it enjoys one extravagant night out, only to collect dust in your drawer for the rest of the year. There goes your new year’s resolution to shop smarter, and 2020 hasn’t even begun yet.
But fear not. We tapped Associate Merchandise Manager Steffi Lee to pick out pieces of jewelry that meet NYE glam standards but can be worn throughout 2020. From up-and-coming trends to classic staples, these pieces are both statements and investments.
Curb Appeal
Diamond Curb Link Necklace | Shop Necklaces
Why it’s perfect for NYE: This piece is built for versatility. With two removable links, you can dazzle on NYE with the 1.50 carat diamond link, and switch to the simple yellow gold link for the rest of the year. “Gold chain necklaces were one of the biggest fall/winter trends and they will continue to be popular in the spring/summer,” says Lee.
Pair it with: “Less busy and more minimal staples like a classic blazer,” says Lee. “Post-NYE, we love wearing chains over neutral chunky knit turtlenecks.”
Take it into 2020: This ’90s trend is back with a vengeance, dominating the spring 2020 runways. Bottega Veneta paired gold chain necklaces with simple dresses, Zimmerman layered thick curb links over beaded necklaces and Brandon Maxwell gave the chain trend a glittering makeover with matching earrings to boot. “Chains can be casual, too. All you need is a simple white tee and high rise jeans, let the necklace be your hero piece,” advises Lee.
Snake Charmer
Bvlgari Diamond Serpenti Ring | Shop Rings
Why it’s perfect for NYE: Much like snakes who hypnotize their prey, this serpent ring is sure to entrance anyone who looks at it with its 2.91 carats of brilliant cut diamonds. “A great modern alternative to a cocktail ring, the Serpenti motif is the most iconic design from Bvlgari,” says Lee.
Pair it with: Since all the attention is on your hand, you better make sure the bag it’s holding is just as covetable. Choose a slouchy clutch or a micro-bag, two bag trends set to dominate 2020.
Take it into 2020: An unusual statement ring is the perfect way to add a touch of glam to every day outfits without going over the top. “Resale value on Bvlgari Serpenti Rings is +8% YoY,” says Lee, which means you can consign it later on if you want to switch things up.
Cartier of a Fine Vintage
Cartier Classique Watch | Shop Watches
Why it’s perfect for NYE: “Vintage jewelry and watches continue to trend on TRR,” says Lee. “The great thing about a vintage watch is that it can double as your jewelry for a night out.”
Pair it with: A cozy sweater and jeans with some statement heels. A high/low mix creates a more relaxed but equally stylish NYE look.
Take it into 2020: Searches for vintage watches have increased 30% in 2019, so expect to see them appearing on wrists into 2020 as well. “This piece will look just as good with ’60s-inspired suiting staples, which will be big for the spring/summer,” says Lee.
Single & Ready To Mingle
Loewe Single Drop Earring | Shop Earrings
Why it’s perfect for NYE: New Year’s Eve is all about standing out, and an unusual trend like the single earring is a surefire way to capture people’s attention. “The single earring trend shows no signs of slowing down,” says Lee. “Not only is this Loewe piece costume and more affordable, it won’t weigh your ear down like a solid metal piece.”
Pair it with: “A puffy shoulder dress,” says Lee. “Volume is big (pun intended) for winter party dressing this year.”
Take it into 2020: As demonstrated by the designers who embraced the single earring trend for their Spring 2020 runway shows, like Marc Jacobs, Prabal Guring and Tibi, two is not always better than one. The single earring will transcend seasons, and look just as good with a breezy dress come summer as it does a party dress or chunky sweater right now.
