Looks We Love: Weekend Sport
Maybe it’s a love for the World Cup or Wimbledon, but designers couldn’t get enough of athletic looks this season. From soccer knee socks at Prada to Marni’s visors and brightly striped belts, the collections brought out all sorts of winning ensembles. So we say, “Game on.” Since the weekend is recreational prime time, we’re featuring three styles for your time off, complete with a strappy pair of Alexander Wang Marlene sandals (they’re like a feminine take on fresh white sneakers).
1. A Racerback Dress
For a sporty style that translates into evening, try a bodycon racerback dress. We love the yellow shade of this one by Maison Ullens paired with a vibrant racer stripe clutch by Clare Vivier.
2. Gym-Inspired Shorts
For a picnic in the park, look to high-cut athletic shorts done in dressier fabrics. This Isabel Marant pair has an elastic waist so they’re just as comfortable as the ones you wear to work out, but the linen fabric gives them summer polish — particularly when matched with the rich, dark hues of a Dries Van Noten print blouse.
3. A Tennis-Ready Skirt
Add flair to a simple printed tank with an A-line skirt. The shape feels ladylike for daytime, and done in white it would fit right in at the US Open. For a touch of edge to take it into nighttime, finish the look with a studded clutch like this one from Prada.
