Art + Fashion Pop-up: Duro Olowu at Salon 94 Bowery
More Material, which opened at Salon 94 Bowery June 26th, collects London by way of Nigeria designer Duro Olowu’s womenswear creations as well as his wide-ranging inspirations. As eclectic and internationally-focused as his lauded print-mixing dresses and separates (favorites of First Lady Michelle Obama), items on display range from antique African costumes to vintage 1930s photographs to leather furniture and artistic tapestries.
Gallery director Alissa Friedman and fashion icon Iris Apfel mingled with the designer and his wife, Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem, Thelma Golden, and other attendees included former Whitney Director David A. Ross, Cindy Sherman and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Also on display were pieces by Sherman, one of Nick Cave’s strange and sublimely beautiful Soundsuits and Glenn Ligon’s Warm Broad Glow. More Material is on view at Salon 94 Bowery until August 1st.
