When your job is driving all over a city and meeting people who love fashion all day, you tend to pick up some great recommendations. Our Luxury Managers get to do just that, meeting people at their homes to help them consign and talking about fashion and the best spots in their city along the way. To highlight one of our favorite cities, we spent the day with local Luxury Manager Shannon Ayres who recently moved to Austin and has already discovered some of the best spots in town. Read on for her favorites.
How long have you lived in Austin? I’m fairly new to Austin, a transplant from the Bay Area. I’ve been here almost a year now, and love getting recommendations from locals on where to go and what to do. Between date nights and girls’ get-togethers, I’m constantly looking for great restaurants around town. I recently had brunch at June’s All Day with some friends, and between the amazing food and the extensive cocktail and wine selection courtesy of their master sommelier, we were quite impressed. It was quaint, yet lively. Such a fun experience.
Has your style changed since you moved to Austin? Ever so slightly. The temperature extremes have been the biggest hurdle in adjusting my wardrobe accordingly for the seasons. I still play up the casual cool look with a twist of boho during the day, accompanied by chic dresses for warm nights out. My long beachy waves are my staple and here to stay!
What’s your go-to lunch spot? I’m usually traveling all over Austin meeting with consignors. When I’m near the city, I love to hop over to Elizabeth St. Cafe. Their ambiance, eclectic decor, and to-die-for shrimp spring rolls make it a go-to.
Where’s the best Austin getaway? Lake Austin Spa & Resort is a hidden gem. Only about 25 minutes from downtown, you’d think you were in another world! It has been rated one of Condé Nast Traveler’s Top Rated Resorts & Destination Spas for almost the last 10 years. My husband and I recently had a staycation and absolutely loved it! It’s a must-do.
Do you have a favorite salon or beauty destination? I love the manicure/pedicure at Tenoverten. I appreciate their non-toxic products as well as the serene environment, which makes for a relaxing indulgence. After getting pampered, I can hop over to Mañana for an iced coffee and healthy treat!
Austin is such a music city. Have you been to many live shows? Yes, my husband and I love live music! We’ve been to many live shows around town, at places like The Continental Club and Antone’s. We’ve had a blast at the local spots, but our all-time favorite is Gruene Hall. It’s the oldest dance hall in Texas, just under an hour south of Austin, and it lives up to all the hype. The live music genre is vast, and you’re sure to find someone you’ll like! Not to mention the nostalgic restaurants and bars located across the street from the venue that are sure to make it an adventure.
What’s your breakfast taco order? My favorite breakfast is the Migas taco at Jo’s. Combined with an almond milk latte, this is the best way to spend a Saturday morning. I love sitting at the picnic tables, people watching and enjoying a relaxing morning.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Texas? I fell hard for the uber friendly, laid-back, family-first lifestyle in Austin. It’s so refreshing after living in the Bay Area for the last 15 years. I see Austin as San Francisco’s cooler, younger sister. The people are absolutely amazing, and I’ve become great friends with many of my consignors around the city. Moving here was my best decision yet!
