Our Editors’ Dream Valentine’s Day Dates
When it comes to holidays, sometimes reality is too much to bear. It’s much easier, and much more fun, to escape to the realm of fantasy for Valentine’s Day where any date, any location, and any chic new addition to your wardrobe isn’t out of reach. We were curious to know where our editors would find themselves this February 14th if freed from the bounds of the real world. From smuggled apple pies to motorcycle rides to single earrings, read on to see what makes up their dream dates.
Lauren Bradshaw, Editorial Director
Who is your dream V-Day date?
’80s Rob Lowe. Such a babe.
Where would you go and what would you do?
We’d go to a jazz bar where he’d bat his blue eyes by soft candlelight, before wooing me by playing the saxophone like he did in St. Elmo’s Fire.
What jewelry piece would you wear or get as a gift?
Rob rocked the one-earring trend long before it was revived on the recent runways, so he’d give me a single earring as a sign of his devotion. (He’d probably wear the matching one. We’d look very cool.)
Khai Khai 18K Diamond Ear Cuff, $495; 14K Diamond Stud Earring, $395; Phyne by Paige Novick Pearl & Diamond Single Earring, $375
Which love song would be playing in the background?
Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is”
Flowers, champagne or chocolates?
He’d bring me flowers, because he’s a gentleman.
Lindsey Taft, Associate Merchandising Manager, Fine Jewelry & Watches
Who is your dream V-Day date?
Charlie Hunnam!
Where would you go and what would you do?
Dinner somewhere romantic along the coast (via his motorcycle, of course).
What jewelry piece would you wear or get as a gift?
I’d be wearing a long pendant necklace layered over a simple choker & a deep-v blouse, and this Anita Ko snake ring with diamonds.
14K Mother of Pearl Pendant Necklace, $225; Anita Ko Pavé Snake Ring, $3,195; Christian Dior Pendant Necklace, $95
Which love song would be playing in the background?
“Superstar” by the Carpenters
Flowers, champagne or chocolates?
Flowers
Sasha Skoda, Women’s Category Director
Who is your dream V-Day date?
I know this is so obvious, but I have to go with Ryan Gosling. I just watched La La Land and was so impressed with his performance — not to mention the incredibly sweet Golden Globes acceptance speech thanking his wife — now that’s a keeper!
Where would you go and what would you do?
I’m going full La La Land fantasy here and going to a jazz club with him. It looked like so much fun in the movie, and he could actually get up there and play a couple songs with them!
What jewelry piece would you wear or get as a gift?
I prefer classic/understated jewelry, but it would be fun to mix it up a bit and wear some really big tassel earrings to go with the jazz theme of the evening. These enamel tassel earrings are so unique — I love the one of a kind estate jewelry pieces we have on the site!
Diamond & Pearl Tassel Earrings, $1,595; Oscar de la Renta Tassel Earrings, $175; Seed Pearl & Enamel Tassel Earrings, $1,495
Which love song would be playing in the background?
No love song necessary, just Ryan on stage dedicating a jazz song to me would be enough!
Flowers, champagne or chocolates?
How about a dirty martini — nothing says romance (and calms the nerves) like an overly stiff cocktail!
Toni Lessler Mills, Fashion Editor & Writer
Who is your dream V-Day date?
Leonardo DiCaprio circa Romeo + Juliet
Where would you go and what would you do?
I’m up for any of Leo’s environmentalist efforts so we’d be helping to save the planet by battling ivory poaching and adopting orphaned elephants.
What is the jewelry piece that you would wear or get as a gift?
I’m guessing I’ll be in for an adventure, so my jewelry would be minimal to nonexistent. If I was to wear a piece, it would be something understated like a classic Cartier trinity band.
Cartier LOVE band, $695; Cartier Paris Nouvelle Vague Ring, $1,125; Cartier Trinity de Cartier Ring, $695
What love song would be playing in the background?
I’m not really a love song person. I’d rather hear nature in the background while we trek through the African safari!
Flowers, champagne or chocolates?
Ohhh that’s hard. It depends on my mood. Is that bad to say all three?
Tiffany Lia Chen, Pricing Lead
Who is your dream V-Day date?
Mine would be another Ryan, Reynolds that is!
Where would you go and what would you do?
I recently read a story that he smuggled these apple pies that his foodie wife (the gorgeous Blake Lively) loves, all the way from Vancouver back to the U.S. He even serenaded the officer at border control just to get them through! As I am also a food lover, my ideal Valentine’s date would be having a nice home-cooked meal. And for dessert, Ryan and I will be having apple pies!
What jewelry piece would you wear or get as a gift?
As a gift, I’d like to get something that I can wear every day and that will remind me of that special moment, something simple like these diamond studs or this ring.
Tiffany & Co. Platinum Elsa Peretti Diamond Stud Earrings, $3,445; Cartier Diamond Ellipse Ring, $1,195; 14K Diamond Stud Earrings, $1,995
Which love song would be playing in the background?
“Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars would be perfect.
Flowers, champagne or chocolates?
Since we’re talking about dream date here, definitely all of the above and you can’t forget the candles!
