3 WAYS TO TELL IF THIS STREET STYLE IT BAG IS REALSHOP CHLOÉ HANDBAGS
From street style stars to celebrities and bloggers, everyone wants to get their hands on this season’s It bag, the Chloé Faye. In earthy colorways and materials like supple suede and exotic python, it’s the perfect mix of modern appeal and ‘70s style that’s everywhere right now. It’s not hard to draw a connection to Faye Dunaway as the bag’s inspiration — from her iconic beret and scarf in Bonnie and Clyde to her penchant for ‘70s staples like wide-brimmed hats, Dunaway’s accessories game has always been strong. It’s easy to imagine her working the Faye into her wardrobe.
As with most handbags that reach cult status, there are bound to be fakes passed off as the real thing. And in the case of the Chloé Faye, you have to be more careful than ever to ensure authenticity. “Upon first seeing the Chloé Faye in person, even a collector might find some attributes suspect,” says Senior Director of Authentication Graham Wetzbarger. “With hardware and materials that differ from most designer bags, we want to be extra diligent in our evaluation,” he notes. Read on to learn the three things to look for in a real Chloé Faye handbag.
1. Chloé Faye Hardware
On many designer handbags, all the hardware should match. Not so for the iconic chain and clasps on the Chloé Faye: “The clasp attached to the front O-ring should be silver tone where the rest of the hardware on the bag will be light gold in color,” says Wetzbarger. “This clasp is not removable from the ring.” While many designer bags use only brand name zippers, Wetzbarger notes that when examining the Faye’s interior zipper and snap, you should notice they are “unbranded and bear no marking of any manufacturer.”
2. Chloé Faye Materials & Construction
In another somewhat uncommon twist, “The interior of the Chloé Faye is not lined in a separate fabric, but rather is comprised of the sueded back side of the exterior leather,” Wetzbarger explains. “The casing across the side of the strap as well on the edges of the accordion pleating, while thick, should be clean and precise,” he notes. As with any Chloé handbag, the materials and construction should be superb: “The leather and suede should be soft and smooth, and the stitching should appear uniform and without any flaws.”
3. Chloé Faye Brand Stamping & Serial Number
Chloé does follow suit with most designer handbags when it comes to brand markings and serial numbers that ensure authenticity. “The exterior and interior brand stamp should be heavy and very crisp,” notes Wetzbarger.
“In the inside pocket you will find a tab with a lot number stamped on the front and a unique serial number sticker on the reverse, which should match the accompanying authenticity card.”
