SMART CONSIGNMENT: WHICH SPRING MEN’S BAG SHOULD YOU INVEST IN?

Men's Bag: Spring Runway SHOP MEN'S BAGS
Men’s bags are more popular than ever,” says Senior Director of Authentication, Graham Wetzbarger. “For the gentlemen who has never owned one, now is the perfect time to try one out.” And with the options on the spring men’s runways, there are plenty of styles to select, from functional weekend carryalls to fashion pieces. So how to choose what’s right for you? According to Wetzbarger and Men’s Category Director, Mayola Martinez, it’s all about picking the right look for your lifestyle. “If you’re investing in a men’s bag, you have to think of what you’re using it for,” says Martinez. Wetzbarger agrees: “Regardless of how fashionable a bag is, if it’s not functional for you, it doesn’t work.” Here, they break down some of the season’s most popular looks and weigh in on which men’s bag has the most on-trend appeal — and which is the better investment when the time comes to consign it on The RealReal.

1. The Work Bag: Burberry’s Satchel vs. Dior Homme’s Briefcase

Men's Bag: Work

MayolaPicMayola’s Pick: The Burberry satchel. “It’s your work bag, so your choice really depends on your job. Even though Dior Homme is one of our trending designers on The RealReal, I’m really loving the Burberry bag. It has strong, classic details, but still feels modern. Oversized shapes have been a big trend on the runway, and this is like a briefcase, tote and messenger bag all in one.”
GrahamPicGraham’s Pick: The Burberry satchel. “The Dior Homme bag is unique aesthetically, and it looks great going down a runway, but does it translate to most offices? No. The Burberry though is secure, roomy, made of durable leather and utilitarian in color and style. There’s always a need and want for a sturdy, classic keepall, so I think it’s the better investment.”

2. The Crossbody: Louis Vuitton’s Cabas Jour vs. Gucci’s Duffle

Men's Bag: Shoulder-Strap

MayolaPicMayola’s Pick: The Louis Vuitton Cabas Jour. “Louis Vuitton’s monogram business continues to perform, and this was the first collection where they brought back their iconic canvas but added a fun element with the blue ‘V.’ From an investment standpoint, this is your main bag. You can wear it as a crossbody or as a tote, and if you consign it, you will get your value back.”

GrahamPic

Graham’s Pick: The Louis Vuitton Cabas Jour. “Any limited edition Louis Vuitton bag holds its value well — it’s an instant collector’s item. Even though the Gucci leather looks beautiful, it could stain or scratch over time. The Louis Vuitton has more longevity and functionality, and because it could be unisex, it appeals to a wider audience which is good for resale as well. “

3. The Backpack: Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato vs. Fendi’s Selleria

Men's Bag: Backpack

MayolaPicMayola’s Pick: Fendi’s Selleria. “Even though the Intrecciato is a classic design, the Fendi was such a strong runway piece. The fashion house has been moving away from their logo looks, and this was their first season going after great color. The leather on this bag is amazing, and I love the topstitch detailing — it’s an excellent street style bag. It’s a piece you want to be seen with.”

GrahamPic

Graham’s Pick: Fendi’s Selleria. “Backpacks are a huge trend, so you probably can’t go wrong with either of these, but the hard-edge bottom of the Bottega seems less functional than the Fendi shape. The Fendi has a great color, durable leather and that classic backpack look.  I think we’ll see it in more editorials and in more stores, making it more popular in the long run — and therefore a better investment.”
