INSIDE THE LOOKBOOK: OUR STYLE DIRECTOR ON HER FALL INSPIRATION

SHOP THE LOOKBOOK

We love fall. The leaves change, September issues hit stands, and it becomes perfectly acceptable to wear comfortable oversized sweaters to work. For our latest fall lookbook, we’ve collected luxe knits, elevated outerwear and more must-haves to get you ready for the changing seasons. It’s all pulled together through the careful eye of our Style Director Molly Thompson who knows how to make even the simplest pieces seem unexpectedly cool. Get her insider perspective on the looks above and fall’s biggest essentials.

Cédric Charlier SweaterWhat was your inspiration for the fall lookbook?
I like the idea of uniform dressing where everything in your closet goes together, and that means using colors that coordinate. I love tone on tone. It’s the best way to make things look expensive. I wanted to show that it’s easy to build a wardrobe from neutral basics — you can mix and match a lot of these looks.

What’s the one piece every woman needs this season?
I love the sweater dressing I saw on the fall runways — chunky knit leggings with a long sweater over them. I don’t know if every woman would wear an all-sweater outfit, but I wish they did! I’d pair them with a chic slide or a low-heel d’Orsay pump.

Do you have a favorite color for fall?
We have a trench-style coat in the lookbook in a caramel color, and it goes with everything. I would love it in a cozy knit.

Chanel Tweed Boots

What about combat boots? There’s a Chanel pair in this shoot . . .
Maybe it’s because my formative fashion years were in the early 90s, but I’m obsessed with a grungy combat boot. I loved that stylist Camilla Nickerson used them in the Calvin Klein fall show.

Anything you’d recommend for fall for someone with more classic tastes?
An updated handbag. I love the crescent shape of the Cèline hobo in our lookbook or the Michael Kors satchel which feels very ladylike.
