HOW TO SPOT A REAL MICHAEL KORS WATCHSHOP MICHAEL KORS WATCHES
Michael Kors is at his best when dealing with the classics. His focus on quintessentially American sportswear means you can always rely on him to send strong, feminine, versatile silhouettes down the runway, and the same is true of his coveted accessories collections. From his wildly popular handbags and shoes to his must-have watches, Kors’ iconic designs have come to dominate the market. “Michael Kors watches are extremely popular and really drove the oversized ‘boyfriend’ watch trend,” says Senior Director of Authentication Graham Wetzbarger. “The yellow gold and rose gold watch trends really took off due to Kors’ prevalence in the marketplace as well.” And the designer shows no signs of slowing when it comes to trend-setting with his timepieces. According to Bloomberg Business, the brand is set to unveil a collection of tech accessories with Fossil Group Inc. in March at Baselworld.
With their meteoric rise in popularity, Michael Kors watches are a prime target for counterfeiters. “In the past couple of years we’ve seen more and more counterfeit Michael Kors merchandise from all categories, including watches,” explains Wetzbarger. And “unlike luxury watch brands like Rolex or Cartier, Michael Kors watches use a variety of movements,” which makes it especially important to take the right steps to authenticate each and every Michael Kors watch. To let you in on the signs of a real MK timepiece, we turned to Wetzbarger for his key authenticity tips. Read on to become an expert on the real deal.
Michael Kors Watch Model & Serial Numbers
“First, we cross-reference the model number to make sure the watch is the correct style,” explains Wetzbarger. The model number can be found beneath the all caps “Michael Kors” on the case back, and should consist of a capital “MK” followed by a dash and four digits. “Next, we check the case back. The top should read “All Stainless Steel” and be followed by a serial number.”
Michael Kors Watch Brand Markings
“Lastly, we inspect the crown to ensure that it is marked ‘MK,’” he notes.
