How to Nail Nyfw Street Style

Words by Jody Hume | 9.5.14
New York Fashion Week is taking over as editors, bloggers and other fashion influencers flood Manhattan for a look at designers’ spring collections, but we always love catching the show outside, as sidewalks transform into temporary runways. “The street style that happens in New York is fresh and young,” says Women’s Category Director Sasha Skoda. “You see more high-low mixing than you do in Milan or Paris, so it feels like real street style — it’s what people are actually wearing and not just the fashion editors and Anna Dello Russo’s of the world.”
Each street style star is unique — some attempt the theatrical with effervescent colors and busy prints like Natalie Joos, while others have a signature uniform like Kate Lanphear. One of Skoda’s favorites? Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine. “So many street style stars feel too perfect, too matchy-matchy, but she’ll just wear denim and a button-up,” she says. “I love that she doesn’t take it so seriously.”
In honor of New York Fashion Week, we’ve curated nine key pieces inspired by the photo-worthy fashion set. Click through our slideshow above to get the look, and be sure to shop our inspired sale.
