NYFW: 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TIBI FALL 2017SHOP TIBI
Tibi, the beloved brand known for clean silhouettes and wearable pieces, embarked upon its Fall 2017 collection in New York this season at the Skylight Modern in Chelsea. Here, Fashion Editor Toni Lessler Mills shares her top highlights.
Tibi’s signature tonal dressing was translated into the Tibi Fall 2017 runway setup: three separate rooms were built in pink, burgundy and blue with their own tonal home décor built in. “It’s about every moment of a woman’s life and looking your best, whether you’re at home or the office or outside,” said designer Amy Smilovic.
From neon velvet kitten heels to satin-sheen pointy boots and stilettos, the shoes almost stole the show with various versions of bad-a** ’80s-inspired heels in an array of colors. Sign us up for one of each, please.
Funnel neck collars with cutouts proved to be the new “hair tuck” style. Models were sent down the runway with the ends of their locks tucked neatly underneath the high necklines and peeking out of the cutout holes. We can’t wait to try this new styling trick.
Tibi is actually celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, impressive longevity for a company that originally started with just three employees in Hong Kong.
The closing song for Tibi Fall 2017 was Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day,” which was written and first released in 1972, re-released in 1997, and then again in 2003. Tibi’s collection perfectly encapsulates all three decades with Studio 54-esque dresses, ‘90s athleisure fabrication and the aughts’ minimal clean lines.
